SHAUN MCGACHAN - general manager

Shaun McGachan has a straight-forward service philosophy: Get it right or make it right. His experience in both European and American styles of hospitality has influenced his management approach. "I try to take what works best on both continents, and combine the two," says McGachan. He has spent over five years in Borrego Springs, first as Assistant General Manager when the property was La Casa del Zorro, and now, through the recent change in ownership and re-launch, as General Manager of Borrego Ranch Resort & Spa.

 

"The resort reflects a sense of place and history, a characteristic shared with the great resorts of Europe.  Though, while still elegant, Borrego Ranch offers a more casual atmosphere and much more spacious accommodations than most European hotels," says McGachan.  "However, it's our staff that truly sets us apart. They come from all over the globe and aren't just here for a summer job – they are passionate about this place. Passionate about preserving the California tradition that makes Borrego Ranch what it is."

 

Educated in travel and tourism at New College Nottingham, Nottingham, England and then in hotel management at Cornell University in New York, McGachan gained experience at various high end resorts such as the historic Harbor View Hotel on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts and the Makeney Hall Hotel in Derbyshire, England.
