WES FISCHER - fitness pro
A life threatening football injury taught Borrego Ranch Fitness Pro, Wes Fischer, a valuable lesson in motivation at a very early age. After undergoing three knee surgeries following the injury, Fischer had to relearn how to walk; a process that took the better part of a year. Although he could not return to the football field, he continued to work on his leg strength and soon discovered his passion for weight lifting and basketball. "At first, my motivation was purely physical. I just wanted to get back in the game. But, eventually it was more about the challenge and the mental stamina it took to regain my strength. That was an important shift and made all the difference," says Fischer.
"When the motivation is there, the physical skills quickly follow," says Fischer, who applies this philosophy to helping guests reach their personal fitness goals.
Fischer joins the Borrego Ranch team from Miraval, where he developed the skills necessary to quickly assess and design fitness routines and programs uniquely suited to each guest, while in the resort setting. He earned his BS in health and exercise science with a concentration in health promotion from Colorado State University, and is an ACE certified personal trainer. He has also coached children and young adults in football, field sports, soccer, track, basketball and baseball for the last 7 years; and since joining the team at Borrego Ranch, has become the head basketball coach at Borrego Springs High School.
"If you lack focus or enthusiasm, just talk to Wes," says Borrego Ranch General Manager Shaun McGachan, "He has more than enough to go around, and it rubs off on you."
