MIKE ROGERS - tennis pro

Borrego Ranch Tennis Pro, Mike Rogers, believes in emphasizing a player's strengths to instill confidence and poise both on and off the court. "While it's important to study the basics, I believe players learn more, feel better and, most importantly, have more fun when they focus on what they do best," says Rogers. "If you have a killer backhand, that's where we'll begin and how we'll build your best game together."

Rogers attended the Tennis Technology Program at Nationally Ranked Tyler Junior College, where he earned a diploma in Recreational Leadership and Teaching. He is a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), the premier organization for tennis professionals, and, a member of the United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR), the world's largest international organization of tennis teachers and coaches. His cooperative coaching style has been honed over 22 years of developing, teaching, and promoting tennis for adults and juniors, most recently as a tennis professional at the Balboa Tennis Club in San Diego.

"Mike doesn't just bark orders. His teaching success comes from his ability to effectively collaborate with his students," says Borrego Ranch General Manager, Shaun McGachan.

Rogers is ranked 9th in the 45 and under age division, San Diego County, for the United States Tennis Association (USTA). He still holds the record for winning three consecutive state championships while attending high school in Connecticut, and is a New England ranked player. Rogers played college tennis at Tyler Junior College and at the University of Central Florida.

Rogers has worked with Vic Braden in Sylt, Germany coordinating adult tennis programs, and recently organized a tennis seminar under Luke Jensen at Rancho Valencia Resort in San Diego.

He will be offering some exciting new programs at Borrego Ranch including a weekend adult mini-camp inclusive of videotaping, and modern stroke production for all levels. Rogers plans to host several Pro/Am tennis tournaments at the resort and will develop clinics with top pros from the San Diego and Phoenix areas.

"We're very excited about expanding and enhancing our tennis program," says McGachan. "We've always had an impressive facility, and now, with regular clinics, weekly programming and individual training, more guests will be able to fully enjoy it."
